Researchers found that people with high emotional intelligence were less likely to believe fake news.

“Fake news on social media özgü now become an important public and government issue,” said Tony Anderson, a faculty member at the Department of Psychology at Strathclyde University, from the research team.

Research on this topic is still in its infancy. However, recent studies have started to focus on psychological factors that reduce some people believing in fake news.

We evaluated whether individuals were better off ignoring the emotionally charged content of fake news and better equipped to assess the accuracy of the information.

In the study in question, participants were asked to read a series of news on social media, determine whether they were real or fictional, and explain the reasons for their responses.

According to EurekAlert, content consisting of real and fake news was about health, crime, economic inequality and the environment. On the other hand, in fake news using emotional language, information was short and sources were lacking.

The researchers also tested to determine the emotional intelligence level of the participants.

The findings, published in the respected science journal PLOS ONE, showed that people who spot fake news often score high on the emotional intelligence kontrol.

Previous research özgü shown that people can be trained to improve their emotional intelligence levels. In other words, it can be ensured that individuals understand better which news is reliable and which is misleading.
