Healthy Hamburgers Are Made From Hot Spring Microbe Converted To Protein

One company is using microbes from hot springs in Yellowstone National Park to make vegan meat for use in hot dogs, nuggets and burgers.

The company uses extremophile organisms, a type of fungus that can survive in extreme environmental conditions and produce high levels of complete protein when grown in a controlled environment.

Converting small microbes into protein begins by feeding them glycerin and starch and ends with a fermentation process that results in ‘Fy Protein’.

Fy is a complete animal-free protein that contains all nine amino acids, is high in fiber and vitamins, and uses less land and soil to biçim than conventional protein.

Traditional proteins such as peas and soybeans or cows and chickens require large amounts of soil, energy and water to grow them, as well as time-consuming methods.

However, the company’s method can be done in a single 35,000 square meter facility, where microbes are constantly multiplying.

The idea was created by the founder of the company, Mark Kozubal, in 2009.

Mark Kozubal was a student working in Yellowstone National Park under permission to study extremophiles with the support of the National Science Foundation and NASA.

He collected samples from an acidic hot spring without causing any adverse effects in the area.

“Actually, we don’t have to go back to Yellowstone to get another sample because we ferment the microbe called Fusarium Strain Flavolapis to create Fy, our nutritious fungal protein.” It was said.

The key to turning microbes into protein is the fermentation process the company uses.

The team uses liquid surface fermentation technology to produce the Fy protein. They do the process by stacking them on a tray in the harvest room.

The microbes feed on food to initiate high protein formation, and within a few days the filaments (continuous fibers) grow and interlock to biçim a matte-like muscle fiber-like texture.

The filaments in the trays are steamed, pressed, rinsed and sliced ​​so that they are made into liquid, solid or powdered biçim to create a variety of foods.

A video produced by the company claims that Yellowstone microbes can produce ‘truly delicious, all-purpose foods that are perfect to feed anyone, anywhere, anytime, without the need for sun, rain or soil.
