Austrian Foreign Minister Schallenberg: Ukraine should not be admitted to the EU


Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg spoke at the 14th European Media Summit held in Lech, Austria.

“Our precedence in membership should be the Balkan nations”

In accordance to the information of İHA; Schallenberg stated there are different methods to help Ukraine. “We’ve to help Ukraine, we’d like to develop our relationships, however this does not require us to make them EU members and even to candidate standing. We will take Ukraine into the European financial space. That is how we will enhance our relationships. There are Balkan nations which are candidate standing to the EU and have made vital progress. They should be our precedence.” used the phrases.

Sturdy response from Ukraine

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Oleh Nikolenko stated: “A strategically narrow-minded assertion. We expect that the assertion is incompatible with the pursuits of a united Europe.”
