Elon Musk reiterated his commitment to build a stand-alone city on Mars using his enormous fortune.
The tech billionaire, who surpassed Jeff Bezos on Thursday and became the richest person in the world, shared a 2018 post on his Twitter profile explaining what he plans to do with his fortune.

My goal is to build a self-sufficient city on Mars so that all living things can survive, in the event that a meteor hits the Earth with the other half while trying to solve the problems in the world with about half of my wealth, or if there is a third World War in which we end ourselves.
The post was the sequel to a series of tweets that tried to justify Musk’s enormous fortune.
“You must be asking why I want money,” Musk tweeted.
The reason is not what you think. I have very little time to have fun. I don’t have things like a vacation house or a yacht.
