What is good for mosquito bite?

Although mosquitoes, especially seen in the summer months, are small and short-lived species, they can cause many minor or major problems, from itchy bites to diseases they can carry.

Mosquito bite

Many people are bitten by mosquitoes each year, but mosquito bites affect each person differently. When mosquitoes bite, the host injects blood from living creatures while injecting some of their saliva (saliva) into the host. Anticoagulants and foreign proteins are found in mosquito saliva. These foreign proteins trigger the body’s immune system. As a result, the body’s immune system releases histamine, a component that helps white blood cells reach the affected area. Histamine is a substance that causes itching, inflammation, and swelling, although it is necessary for the body to fight foreign substances.
Both male and female mosquitoes feed on plant nectars and water, but female mosquitoes need blood in their diets to breed. Therefore, only female mosquitoes bite humans. Mosquito bites rarely produce severe allergic responses. In these very rare allergic reactions, if there are symptoms such as difficulty breathing, rashes on the body and the sensation that the throat has started to close, the emergency room should be consulted as soon as possible. After mosquito bites, symptoms such as high fever, lesions, swelling in the joints are not caused by allergies, but by diseases that mosquitoes can carry. In such a situation, it is important to consult a healthcare provider immediately.

What is good for mosquito itch?

Mosquito bites tend to pass within 1-2 days. The immune system is weak and the redness and swelling may stay longer in children. Topical anti-histamine creams and anti-itch ointments sold in pharmacies and applied to the surface of the skin can be used in mosquito itch. Ice can also be applied to a mosquito bite to reduce itching and inflammation. In mosquito bites, scratching the bitten site causes both increased redness and itching. This is because itching increases the inflammation in the skin. In addition, skin irritation and bleeding may occur as a result of scratching. This increases the risk of infection. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that their nails are cut and not scratched, especially if the mosquito has bitten a child.

The first thing you do when a mosquito is bitten is to wash the mosquito bite with soap and water. In addition to drugs taken from pharmacies for mosquito bite, you can create natural solutions from household products.
Esopropyl or ethanol type alcohols cause mosquito itching due to the cooling effect they create when evaporating. Alcohol acts as a disinfectant. The lavender cologne you have at home both removes mosquito itch with ethanol and prevents mosquitoes from approaching at least until the scent is over with the lavender scent. An important issue here is that excessive alcohol use can irritate the skin.
Black and green tea bags can be used to relieve swelling. You can also benefit from the cooling effect if you wrap the bags you use in a plastic wrap after drinking tea and keep them in the refrigerator.
Due to the anti-inflammatory effect of aloe vera, its usage area is very wide. You can apply the gel to the leaf of the aloe vera plant you have at home, on the bitten area.
Garlic, diluted, chopped
The wound-healing and antiviral properties of garlic have long been known. However, when garlic is applied directly to the skin, it can irritate the skin and cause further inflammation. Therefore, you can dilute the chopped garlic with a light oil such as coconut oil and apply it to the bitten place.
Oatmeal has properties that help soothe insect bites, allergic reactions, chickenpox, and dry skin. You can add some water to the fine oatmeal and apply the masked mixture on the affected area. After 15 minutes, you can moisten it with a cream after washing it off with lukewarm water. Honey can also be added to this mixture due to its antibacterial effect. Honey should be used with caution as it can attract more mosquitoes.
Rubbing the skin with basil is another natural remedy for mosquito bites. Basil has chemical compounds that can soothe itchy skin. You can apply basil oil as a lotion or make it yourself at home. Boil 2 cups of water and about 15 grams of dried basil leaves to make your own mixture. After the mixture has cooled, rub the cotton soaked in the mixture on the affected area. For a more immediate treatment, chop fresh basil leaves and rub them on your skin.

It is stated in many places that toothpaste, baking soda, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice are good for mosquito bites. However, these products can dry particularly sensitive skin very quickly and even increase skin redness. Therefore, great care should be taken when using these products.

Mosquitoes come more to heat, light, lactic acid, sweat and body odor, carbon dioxide. Additionally, alcohol intake has been shown to be associated with higher biting. Therefore, picnic etc. Alcohol intake can be restricted in places and precautions can be taken.
