UNHCR statement on Afghanistan: Thousands of people leave the country every week


United Nations Excessive Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Afghanistan Consultant Caroline Van Buren attended the press convention held at the UN Headquarters.

Caroline Van Buren gave details about the newest developments in the country after the Taliban took management of Afghanistan at the assembly.

“WE ARE GETTING BAD NEWS FOR WOMEN”

Van Buren said that they’d obtained information of human rights violations in opposition to girls. “We’re getting studies that in some areas girls are usually not allowed to work, and in different areas girls are usually not allowed to behave and not using a household man with them.” stated.

“HEF WEEK 20-30 THOUSAND PEOPLE LEAVE THE COUNTRY ILLEGAL WAYS”

Explaining that greater than half one million people had been displaced inside the country this 12 months, Van Buren stated, “We estimate that round 20 to 30,000 people leave illegally every week.” stated. Van Buren stated that some Afghans crossed into Pakistan if the border was open, and most of them went to Iran.

World Meals Program Afghanistan Director Mary Ellen McGroarty stated that they mentioned with the Taliban how the UN would perform when the US handed over management of the airport after the evacuations. McGroarty said that the airport is essential for the supply of humanitarian help.

TALIBAN DOMINATES THE COUNTRY
