Russia withdraws from the Open Skies Agreement


In accordance with the regulation revealed in the Russian State Regulation Info System; Russia withdrew from the Open Skies Agreement signed in Helsinki, Finland, on March 24, 1992.

The regulation in query was signed by President Vladimir Putin.

The US introduced on November 22, 2020 that it was withdrawing from the Open Skies Agreement, which regulates arms management with Russia.

ANNOUNCED ON JANUARY 15

Russia introduced on January 15 that it had determined to begin the strategy of withdrawing from the Open Skies Agreement.

Russia and the United States have been amongst 34 nations that signed the Open Skies Agreement, which permits unarmed reconnaissance flights to advertise transparency in army actions and facilitate monitoring of arms management and different agreements.

Turkey is amongst the events to the Open Skies Agreement, which was envisaged as a measure to extend confidence and safety in the geography of the Group for Safety and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and opened for signature in 1992.
