Freight trains collided in Russia

On the Ulak-Elga line in the Amur area of Russia, 2 freight trains carrying coal, advancing at some extent near the Verkniy Ulak practice station, collided head-on.

WAGONS, INCLUDING LOCOMOTIVES, TURNED ON THE RAILS

All coal wagons, together with the locomotives, fell on the rails because of the impression of the collision. Rescue groups have been directed to the area and work was began to rescue the mechanic and workers.

2 MACHINES KILLED, 2 HEAVY DUTY

CAUSE MECHANICAL FAULT

In an announcement after the practice accident, the Amur Area Investigation Committee said that the reason for the accident was a mechanical failure, in accordance with preliminary estimates.

It was said that the technical investigations concerning the precise reason behind the accident have been persevering with, and it was introduced that the railway cranes have been despatched to the area to take away the overturned wagons and the cleansing works have been persevering with.

Whereas an investigation was began concerning the accident, railroad transportation in the area was suspended because of the accident. It was said that after the completion of the works carried out in the area, the practice companies might be restarted.
