IKEA is one of my favorite shops because you can find so many furniture items that are low budget. While most of them are pretty boring there are multiple ways you can transform them.
We love imaginative IKEA hacks. You take a best-selling IKEA basic and give it a new lease of life – turning it into a ‘where did you get that?” feature for your home. Best of all, these simple ideas require next-to-no DIY skills. What’s not to love?
Today I want to share with you 20 lovely IKEA hacks you can use to decorate your home!
1. Entryway Organization

Get an Ikea Kallax shelf unit and transform it into an entryway organization unit. We all have a lot of things that simply need to go somewhere.
With this organization unit, you can forget about the things being all over the place. You can now store them in one place and have a nice entry to the house.
Now all your sunglasses, scarfs, and other essentials have a place to be.
2. Marble Top Bedside Table
Get a regular IKEA bedside table and transform it into something that suits your bedroom energy. First, get a little bit of paint – preferably grey.
3. Industrial Shelf
You don’t need to buy industrial shelving to make it look industrial! Get this super cheap Hyllis shelving unit, spray it with black paint and add wood planks to the shelves.
4. Long Storage Unit
Get IKEA Expedit and a long bookshelf, and turn them into this marvelous long storage unit. It also happens to look absolutely amazing.
5. Hallway Bench with Storage
You can turn Ikea Kallax into a beautiful storage unit the whole family will love. It can also function as a bench, which makes it perfect for a hallway.
Sit down on it to put your shoes on or when waiting for the family to get ready. For it, you’ll need a long wooden plank or a few large wooden planks for a more rustic look.
6. Shelves for Books
A great way to design your walls and create some practical storage space.
7. Ikea Cart for Your Desk Setup
This Ikea cart will do for a perfect addition to your office space. Especially if you have a wall desk!
Just roll it under the desk and store all your documents, pens, notebooks and other office supplies in there. It does for a beautiful design piece and you can always move it to another room when inspiration hits.
8. Bookcase Makeover
You know that IKEA shelves are super cheap. So, you can definitely get one and use your own imagination to make it look a little bit more interesting.
9. Stylish Open Shelf
Would you believe me if I told you that this bookshelf was made from plate holders? Yes, they’re made from the inexpensive Ikea Ostbit bamboo plate holders!
10. Farmstyle Bookshelf
Ikea furniture comes in minimalistic yet functional designs. But that doesn’t mean you can’t transform them into something to suit your decorative preferences.
11. Skadis Bathroom Organizer
The Skadis is a versatile organization tool with a pegboard base. It has a wide range of containers, shelves, clips, and hooks, so you are free to design your bathroom’s organization board.
12. Home Office Divider
Make your workspace distinct from the rest of the house. Use a combination of Ikea Kallax shelves to create a bookshelf and divider in one!
13. DIY Wall Planters
Add a creative touch to your indoor plant decors by mounting them to the wall instead of resting them on tabletop surfaces.
14. DIY Bar Cabinet
This hack is similar to the shoe cabinet upgrade we showed you earlier on this list. The difference is that instead of using it for shoes, you use it to store your premium bottles and cocktails instead.
15. Boho-Style Ikea Bedside Table
The Ikea Nesna bedside table is an inexpensive piece of minimalistic furniture that you can easily transform into a boho-style accent piece by simply flexing your DIY muscles.
16. Save space with a skinny night stand

This is one of the best bedside table ideas if you’re on a budget or even just lacking space. Take two of the IKEA Mosslanda picture ledges, attach one to the walls as ‘normal’ then take the second and turn it upside down and position on top. Affix this to the wall also, to form a small cubby space to keep bedside essentials to hand, such as books, reading glasses etc.
17. Build bespoke storage using Billy bookcases

Think outside the box with the much-loved Billy bookcases. Use a single width bookcase attached to the side of a double width version to create an ‘end’ so to speak. This then frees up a side panel on which to mount a cut-to-fit vinyl chalkboard sticker – making it even more versatile and useful.
18. Turn a slimline bookcase into a swish bedroom bench

Place a sturdy Kallax shelf unit on its side to create a bespoke storage bench with cubbies to sit at the end of a bed. Perfect for basketfuls of shoes or spare bedding, cut foam to size and cover in a co-ordinating fabric to make a comfy cushion to sit on. Add gold longline feet at each end for a luxe finishing touch.
19. Fashion a work space with painted panel and floating shelves

Create the ideal place for youngsters to work from with this simple hack, a winning small home office idea. Dedicate an area of the room by painting a panel section, cleverly mounting two floating shelves to create the illusion of a wall-mounted unit. Complete the space with a wire memo rack, compact desktop and a chair to provide everything they need.
20. Mount a rail to display houseplants

Here’s a fine example of when something so simple becomes something so unique. The IKEA Racka curtain pole takes on a new life as a bespoke hanging plant rail. The simple curtain pole, sold complete with fittings, comes in black, white or grey and can be easily used to create a wall display of plants.
